Duncan.  This is from sister Alice's daughter Opal and brother Henry's wife.  The latter gives data for these two children:                                                                           165      1  Son b Feb. 1925 d after a few days      2  Daughter b Oct. 1925 d after a few hours      **********************************************************             515  ANDREW LOUDEN SWAYNE (7), born March 23, 1901 at Carlock, Ill., son of 323 Silas Lafayette Swayne & Ardena Mae Moore of Ohio, Illinois and Nebraska, married Feb. 24, 1926 at Goodland, Kans., Myrtle Mae Doggett, born Sep. 12, 1905 at Gradan, Graham Co., Kans., daughter of George Orvis Doggett & Rose Hester Kerfoot.  This is from Wilma Ethel Doggett Swayne, sister of Myrtle and wife of 508 Henry Franklin Swayne, first cousin of An- drew.  She says in 1954 they lived at Yelleville, Ark.  The mother and the youngest five children were on Route A there, while the father, a carpenter, was working in Kansas City:      711  Andrew Doyt b 1926 m 1947 Pauline Baker      712  Chester Allen b 1928 m 1952 Gertrude      713  Donald Dean b 1929 m 1953 Lorretta      714  George Ivan b 1932 m 1952 Cindy      715  Dallas Eugene b 1933 m 1953 Mary Sue Shipman      716  Larry Dwayne b 1936      717  Darold Lee b 1940      718  Dorothy Gladys b 1942      719  Shirley Deloris b 1945      720  Dennis Alden b 1947             516  RUBY GLADYS SWAYNE (7), born March 21, 1903 at Congerville, Ill., daughter of 323 Silas Lafayette Swayne & Ardena Mae Moore of Ohio, Illinois  and Nebraska, married 1st Sep. 24, 1922 at Phillipsburg, Kans., Ora John Crouse, born 1900 at Lexington, Nebr., died about Sep. 22, 1951 after their separation, buried certainly Sep. 24, 1951, which would have been their wedding anniversary, son of John Ora Crouse & Sarah Jane Ord; she married 2nd Dec. 5, 1946 at Phoenix, Ariz., John Eugene Suzo, son of Joseph Suzo & Anne Mehilick of New Castle, Pa., where Joseph died in 1905, and by 1954 Anne was Anne Kozar of 1517 Spearman Ave. in Farrell, Pa.  This is all from Ruby herself, who has been interested in helping to gather fa- mily data from her widely scattered brothers and sisters.             In 1954, having previously lived in Omaha, Nebr., she and John were running the Baxter Hotel in Denver, Colo., at Broadway & 13th Ave., one block south of civic center and state capitol, 80 modern rooms.  At Christ- mas of that year she planned in that hotel a reunion of all the children of Silas and many children of his brothers.  From her enthusiastic description of the setting and program, both before and after, it was amply evident that Ruby had boundless energy as well as management know-how.  She says the only child was this son, adopted at five and given the surname Crouse:      1  Wendell Leroy b 1929 in Missouri, m June 1, 1954 in Los Angeles,         Bonnie Marce             517  ELSA VIOLET SWAYNE (7), born 1904 at Overton, Nebr., died 1904, daughter of 323 Silas Lafayette Swayne & Ardena Mae Moore of Ohio, Illinois and Nebraska, says sister Ruby.             518  ETHEL MAE SWAYNE (7), born Nov. 26, 1906 at Overton, Nebr., daughter of 323 Silas Lafayette Swayne & Ardena Mae Moore of Ohio, Illinois 166 and Nebraska, married 1st 1922 John Benzler, married 2nd Harry Pickerell. In 1948 they lived on Clinton Ave. in Rosedale, Calif. and in 1954 at 308 Judah St. there.  Sister Ruby says born 1906, the wife of 508 Henry Franklin Swayne says Nov. 26, 1905, and says in 1954 a son lived with his mother and stepfather in California, also 500 Edith Carrie Swayne Harvey confirms parts of this.  There was this one son by the 1st husband:      1  John, married and had two children             519  THURMAN LEO SWAYNE (7), born March 31, 1907 at Overton, Nebr., son of 323 Silas Lafayette Swayne & Ardena Mae Moore of Ohio, Illinois and Nebraska, married 1st Ethel, married 2nd a wife whose name seems to be unknown among his relatives.  Sister Ruby says born 1907, the wife of 508 Henry Franklin Swayne has it March 31, 1908.  While some of this is from 500 Edith Carrie Swayne Harvey, the wife of 508 seems more familiar with his life, saying he married twice, had the two sons below, who were put in a home in Denver, and in 1954 she did not know where they were, but Thurm was working at Morland, Kans.  Late in that same year sister Ruby in giving addresses says address Thurm at 1516 Locust St. in Des Moines, Iowa, care of Eleanor Blue, a friend who knows where he is when no one else does, and he in prob- ably back in Des Moines now, where he goes every winter and works in a hotel. The two sons:      721  Leo      722  Richard             520  JOHN EVERETT SWAYNE (7), born Sep. 8, 1908 at Overton, Nebr., son of 323 Silas Lafayette Swayne & Ardena Mae Moore of Ohio, Illinois and Nebraska, married 1st about 1929 Nancy Lucille Souders, born 1914 at Good- land, Kansas, apparently alive in Jan. 1955, for he says her age was 40 then, married 2nd Dec. 14, 1939 at Las Vegas, Nev., Mayme Havelka, born June 1, 1909 at Menominee, Mich., daughter of Joseph Havelka & Josephine Roubal.  All of this, with births of children and just the names of three grandchildren, comes from John himself, in January 1955 of 2023 North 17th St., Milwaukee 5, Wis.  While his close relatives did not know much about him, making it diffi- cult to find him, he had returned home from a Christmas party his sister Ruby had organized in her Denver hotel for the family.  The first four children were by the 1st wife, the last six by the 2nd.  The 1st was born in Goodland, Kansas, the next three in Kearney, Nebr., where the 4th died, the 5th at Wil- mar, Calif., the 6th and 7th at East Los Angeles, Calif. and the last three at Menominee, Mich.  The wife of 508 Henry Franklin Swayne, who seems to know more about John than some closer relatives, thinks the first three children were put in a home in Wyoming.  The ten children:      723  Howard Everett b 1929 m Betty Williams      724  Gerald Lee b 1931 m Marianne      725  Beverly Delores b 1933 m Joe Hill      726  Robert Allen b 1935 d 1936           *********      727  Larry Ellwood b 1940      728  Loretta Mae b 1941      729  Georgia Ann b 1942      730  Jerome Joseph b 1944      731  Leland Edward b 1946      732  Janice Sue b 1951                                                                           167             521  EDNA OPAL SWAYNE (7), born 1909 at Overton, Nebr., died aged six months, daughter of 323 Silas Lafayette Swayne & Ardena Mae Moore of Ohio, Illinois and Nebraska.  This birth is from sister Ruby, her death from the wife of 324 Joseph Benjamin Swayne and 500 Edith Carrie Swayne Harvey.             522  HARLEY TRUE SWAYNE (7), born Feb. 13, 1911, son of 323 Silas Lafayette Swayne & Ardena Mae Moore of Ohio, Illinois and Nebraska, married 1st a wife whose name has not been found, married 2nd Julia Marguerite Koehn, born Nov. 11, 1907 at Oklahoma City, Okla., daughter of Charles Koehn of there and Katherine, who died 1931.  This is from Ruby Gladys Swayne Crouse Suzo, to whom Julia sent these birth dates, saying Harley was born at Over- ton, Nebr.  The wife of 508 Henry Franklin Swayne says the wife with Harley's six children lives in California and Harley does not have a home.  Sister Ruby says in Dec. 1954 that Harley is now in Cheyenne, care of Cheyenne Bowl- ing Alley, and that his wife Julia Swayne, who sent her names and births of these six children, lives at 56 Wainwright Drive, Bakersfield, Calif.:      733  Harley Thomas b 1934 at Cheyenne, Wyo.      734  Ruby Arlene b 1935 at same      735  Joann Mae b 1937 at same      736  Keith Edward b 1938 at same      737  Artie True b 1940 at Long Beach, Calif.      738  Rebecca Elizabeth b 1945 at Florence, Oreg.             523  DALE HAROLD SWAYNE (7), born Feb. 8, 1913 at Elm Creek, Nebr. he says, son of 323 Silas Lafayette Swayne & Ardena Mae Moore of Ohio, Illinois and Nebraska, married Sep. 24, 1952 before the Registrar of the City of Landshut, Bavaria, Germany, Anna Reicheneder, born May 15, 1921 at Loiching, County of Dingolfing, Bavaria, daughter of Johann Reicheneder, innkeeper of Loiching, & Anna Reicheneder, nee Garr.  By this marriage he acquired a stepson, whom he adopted within a month after marriage:  "hat der Sergeant der amerikanischen Armee Dale H. Swayne ........ bestimmt, das es nur den Familiennamen  S w a y n e  fuhren soll".  Dale wrote in Nov. 1954 from Melvindale, Mich., where he was living with wife and stepson at 18620 Wood Ave., Sgt stationed at Unit HQ, Battery 504th AAA GUN BN, Dearborn, Mich., sending this adoption certificate, three honorable discharges, two German records of his marriage and birth certificates for his wife and adopt- ed son.  He had served three enlistments in the U. S. Army, 1940-1945, 1947- 1951, 1951-1954, and in 1954 had again re-enlisted.  During 1945-1947 he was moulder in a steel mill, employed by Madsen Iron Works at Huntington Park, Calif.  In the army he served as quartermaster, truck driver and auto me- chanic.  During the 2nd enlistment he had been in Europe more than two years, and his record includes these battles and campaigns:  Algeria, French Mo- rocco, Tunisia, Sicily, Naples, Foggia, Southern France, GO 33 WD 45, Rome, Arno, Rhineland, Central Europe, GO 40 WD 45; also under decorations and ci- tations:  European African Middle Eastern campaign medal, Distinguished unit badge GO 44 WD 45, Bronze service arrowhead, Croix de guerre (55).  Dale was 5' 8" tall, at end of 1st enlistment in 1945 weighed 163 pounds, at end of 3rd in 1954 weighed 195 pounds.  The adopted son:      739  Luis Josef Henriet Reicheneder b 1947, later Louis Joseph H. Swayne             524  RAY ALBERT SWAYNE (7), born May 27, 1914 near Elm Creek, Nebr., he says, son of 323 Silas Lafayette Swayne & Ardena Mae Moore of Ohio, 168 Illinois and Nebraska, married Sep. 20, 1934 at Grand Island, Nebr., Doris Evelyn Hoover of Nebraska, born July 4, 1913 near Norcatur, Kansas, daughter of Frank L. Hoover & Bessie Estella Abbott.  This is from Ray himself, who in Nov. 1954 wrote under the letterhead of Hollywood Ceramics, Home of Easy- Du Products, 6063 N. E. Glisan St., Portland 13, Oregon, a shop he says caters to hobbyists in clay, expensive porcelain and other lines.  Doris is very artistic in these and other arts.  When he left his job as railroad clerk in Los Angeles, they first set up such a shop at Coos Bay, Oreg. and later moved to Portland.  There was this one son:      740  Ray Albert b 1936 at Clayton, Norcatur Co., Kans.             525  CECIL LEONA SWAYNE (7), born Oct. 20, 1915 at Elm Creek, Nebr., daughter of 323 Silas Lafayette Swayne & Ardena Mae Moore of Ohio, Illinois and Nebraska, married Apr. 29, 1937 Carl Kostman, born Nov. 4, 1915 at Gothberg, Nebr.  When Cecil was five weeks old her mother died, and from then she was raised by 320 Oren B. Swarthmore A. B. 1908, he taught one year in Friends Academy, Locust Valley, Long Island, then taught chemistry and physics at George School, Bucks Co., Pa., where he was employed from Sep. 1909 to June 1950.  Amelia, as she is                                                                           171 known, Swarthmore A. Klig- man, M. D., Ph. Hobson.  William farmed the 130 acres which had been his father's, but soon disposed of more than half, by these three deeds:  20 Dec. 1916 William H. Swayne Jr & wife Mabel H. of Pennsbury Twp deeded for $9570.20 to Philip F. DuPont 47 and 851/1000 acres there on Wilmington Road by Jacob M. Swayne and Philip F. DuPont and William H. Swayne, part of that received from Jacob M. Swayne & wife Apr. 7, 1913 by William H. Swayne who died intestate Sep. 24, 1914 leaving three children and the other two Oct. 9, 1914 conveyed their interest to brother William H. Swayne Jr.  But two children of these three have been found else- where.  Certainly the only grantors who conveyed their interest as just above stated were William's sister Mary Heyl, her husband and Eleanor Swayne, who is supposed to have been William's mother, who was still living.  15 Nov. 1919 the same pair deeded for $1192 five acres next land to be conveyed to Selborne Farms Inc., received as above.  This says William died intestate Sep. 24, 1913, widower.  His obituary and the family say he died 1914 as in the deed next above.  If it was true he was a widower, then the Eleanor Swayne mentioned just above must have been daughter rather than widow.  15 Nov. 1919 the same pair deeded for $6058 to Selborne Farms Inc. 26 acres there received by William H. Swayne Jr as next above.  This too makes the error of saying William H. Passmore of near Fairville, Pennsbury Twp, Chester Co., Pa., married Oct. 11, 1922 Laura Williamson, born Apr. 21, 1902.  West Chester Daily Local News says they separated Sep. 1941 and she was awarded a divorce 10.16.1947.  In 1921 he was a farmer at Fairville.  The Philadel- phia Sunday Inquirer of July 4, 1949 has an illustrated article on Shirley T. Swayne, self styled Nature Boy of Mendenhall, Pa., who lives in a sagging shack behind Harry Posey's warehouse near Mendenhall station, where he eats a very natural and probably healthful diet, no meat nor cooked foods but mainly raw vegetables, mostly onions and carrots, whole wheat bread, brown cereals, nuts, cheese, crackers, milk and fruit juices, swings Indian clubs, sleeps soundly, dons brief shorts for trips of 15 miles which often cause residents to report to police an elderly, scantily dressed man.  He doesn't try to increase this natural attention, avoids populated sections when pos- sible, doesn't try to convert others, just to be healthy and happy himself. From the shack much tar paper has peeled.  It is partly covered by vines and surrounded by tall weeds.  He drives a 1928 car to the nearest town for frugal shopping.  Besides his work for the State Department of Highways, Shirley gets regular workouts with clubs, tree climbing and hiking in shorts and sneakers.  Born on a Fairville farm 59 years ago, suffering constant asthma and eight pneumonia attacks before he was 50, he decided to find a better regime for living, so discards clothes as often as possible, winter and summer, and has since had no doctor nor dentist and few clothing bills, but many police contacts because of phone calls from disturbed people. State police know him well, frequently stop to chat with him.  He has composed and published nine folk ballads, which he sings without accompaniment.  The four photographs show him, 1st hiking, 2nd club swinging, 3rd standing in a tree, 4th hanging by his knees from a branch, all in loin cloth and shoes only, erect, clean shaven, lean, knobby and nearly bald.  When visited Aug. 22, 1954 he was a one man nudist colony.  He gave the above data for his wife, who had lived with him in the shack one year and afterward visited him often, as had their one child below, born on the eighth anniversary of their mar- riage, lacking one day:      771  Samuel Williamson b 1930             561  ANNE TAYLOR SWAYNE (8), born 8.25.1891, daughter of 343 Jacob Marshall Swayne & Ann J. Worrell of Llanerch, Delaware Co., Pa., married about June 9, 1892 Julia A., died Feb. 13, 1947.  A letter from him in 1921 says he is a salesman in Philadelphia, Pa., living at 5433 Master St., and names the daughter below.  His father gives his name as above and refers to him as "our Matt", but he calls himself Harry M. Swayne and signs H. M. It was Warner who was mentioned, but not named, in the foreword of that book. Col- burn of South Dakota, born 1887.  In 1920 he sent data for his family and births of the children of his Swayne grandparents.  He expressed interest in the family history and was one of a few who contributed $100 each toward publishing the Descendants of Francis Swayne, and others.  His 1920 letter- head reads:  Owners and Investors Bureau, 80-82 West Washington St., Chicago, Illinois.  That of 1921:  Albert W. Swayne & Co., Real Estate, 400 North Michigan Ave., Chicago, Illinois, specializing in co-operative ownership of apartment buildings.  His residence then was 1508 Pratt Blvd., Chicago.  In 1948 brother Francis says Albert lived at R. R. 1, McHenry, Ill.  The Times of St. Petersburg, Florida of March 22, 1953 carries a cut of a house at 501 Brightwaters Blvd there, including a swimming pool and a dock on Tampa Bay, priced at $55000, just purchased for a winter home by Albert W. Army, born Kennett Square.  A newspaper clip- ping reporting the wedding says Lieutenant Swayne was a cadet in the Second Officers Training Camp at Fort Oglethorpe, Ga. and will leave tomorrow to report for duty at the School of Military Aeronautics at Augusta, Ga., that the bride is a graduate of West Chester High School and has since been with the art department of Stern & Co. in Philadelphia.  Clarence himself, writ- ing in 1948 from 15 West Biddle St., West Chester, says he was born in Toughkenamon, gives the three dates first above, says in the First World War he was commander of the 833 Aero Squadron, attached to the Royair Air Force, where he became well acquainted with the present King of England, then Duke of York, who was a captain in the R. A. B. from the Uni- versity of New Mexico, has taught there in Albuquerque and in Fort Wayne. During the summer of 1947 she changed her address from Box 1175, Fort Wayne to Box 312, Albuquerque.  In 1920 it was she who furnished the data for her family included in the Descendants of Francis Swayne, and others, published 1921.  In 1947 she rides herd on her family, getting them to fill the blanks sent them.  The Swayne line back of her, with her brothers and sisters and some other connections, is in the Compendium of American Genealogy, Vol. VI, published 1937, apparently copied in parts from the above Descendants of Francis Swayne, her copy of which was burned in a house fire.  She signs M. Y.  Ken- neth graduated 1943 from Lehigh in the wartime accelerated plan, after elec- tion to many honorary societies and making university teams in soccer, wrestling and baseball.  Being Junior year president of the class, with no Senior officers elected, he became permanent president.  He was also auto- matic chairman of the committee of five elected to run all affairs of the classes, having received the highest number of votes in the election to this committee.  Beginning as engineer with General Electric Co. he soon was shifted to Tennessee Eastman Co., which was setting up a new plant and com- munity at Oak Ridge, Tenn., which turned out to be for research on the atomic bomb.  After a year there he was drafted and spent a year as Seaman First Class studying electronics.  After several years of teaching and research at Lehigh University he went with the DuPont Co. for research in mechanical engineering.  Carol graduated 1942 B. S. at Buffalo State Teachers College, M. Hobson of Fairville, Chester Co., Pa.  West Chester Daily Local News and Kennett News & Advertiser say he was born in Fairville Sep. 19, 1919, one day later than the date given by his uncle, attended Kennett Consolidated School, en- tered the army June 7, 1941, was sent overseas Aug. 1944, won the Purple Heart, also the Silver Star for gallantry at Remagen Bridge, was killed by a sniper two days before the end of the war in Europe and buried in U. S.
